Here's Your Sign

OK then, I've got my sign!  This will become clear in just a moment.

I've been trying very hard to stick to the posting schedule where topics of real estate alternate with topics of homelessness, but I'm not sure that I'll be completely successful all the time. Today should be (and is) about real estate, but I think we all need a little humor this time. Looking back at real estate postings, I see the following topics: Taxes, Stigmatized property, Floods and Foreclosures. I mean really! There MUST be something fun about real estate, right?

Ready or not, here we go.  Out of the blue, I just start writing sometimes and today is the day (well, actually the "day" was a couple of weeks ago now since this was not posted as originally scheduled).  We all do stupid things once in a while.  All of us!  I've caught myself doing or saying something just plain off the wall - stupid.  (No examples, sorry. If you know me, you already know my stories.  If you don't, well mystery is good, yes?)

Making the rounds a few years ago by "forward email", I received a Bill Engvall comedy skit called "Here's Your Sign".  Eventually, it was made into a song with Randy Travis.  This was posted on YouTube by Warner Brothers Records and if you need something to make you smile - watch this!

What's the premise?  Well, Mr. Engvall makes the statement that the stupid people should have to wear signs. This way, all 'non-stupid' people (those of you reading my blog, of course) could avoid depending on sign-wearing people. Yea, I know it sounds mean but just remember we ALL do stupid things AND it's good to laugh at ourselves - at least sometimes.

Here's an example from the routine:

"We were trying to sell our car about a year ago. A guy came over to the house and drove the car around for about 45 minutes. We get back to the house, he gets out of the car, reaches down and grabs the exhaust pipe, then goes, 'Darn that's hot!'
See?  If he'd been wearing his sign, I could have stopped him!"

Well, I wonder how many of us have done something stupid when it comes to real estate?  How do you spell e-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y?  Even celebrities join the group.

Nicholas Cage (I really like this guy) had an absolute affinity for real estate. "Had" is the operative word.  You want examples?
  • Newport Beach: $1.7M home is now listed for less than $1M
  • Rhode Island: $15.7M home is now listed for $7.5M
  • Las Vegas: $8.5M home sold for $5M
  • Manhattan: $9.5M apartment sold for $7.5M
  • New Orleans: 2 homes valued at $3.5M each went back to the bank at $4.5M total.
  • Bel-Air: $35M home listed for less than $10M
There are other celebrities experiencing similar losses.  Their stories can be found at RealtyTrac

Well, we can laugh at the Bill Envall skit, but nobody is laughing at the mistakes or miscalculations we've made when it comes to our own properties.  And to be truthful, so much of the situation in which so many of us find ourselves was really out of our control.  We made, what was at the time, sound choices.  But then ...

In today's market, you need to have someone on your side who can really look at the market conditions specific to your location. You need to have an "expert" in your corner and we can help you find that person.  CONTACT Responsible Referrals now and we'll get to work for you at no cost, remembering that half of the revenue generated by your business goes back to homeless youth and families.  Thank you for your help.

Oh and one more thing.  If you're still needing a good laugh, just Google "stupid signs".  One of them states: Touching Wire Causes Instant Death.  $200 fine!  There's more and they are hilarious!
