An Anniversary. A reminder.

A little over 95 degrees with a bright sun, blue sky and the rhythmic movement of the Pacific ocean. An ideal day (as so many are) in Honolulu. As stunning as nature can be, no doubt.

Standing on the sand, a group of people gazes towards the ocean.  But they're looking less at the nature-provided beauty and more at the two people standing in front of them.  It was five years ago today and all eyes were focused on this couple as they made promises and commitments to each other.

On the plane ride home, a book was passed around in order that we could write comments, wishes, and reflections of the wedding and/or marriage itself.  Remembering words chosen, I thought I'd write them again in order that this amazing couple (now with two amazing children - apple doesn't fall far from the tree ya', know) might remember and continue their commitment to each other.  Turns out, I need reminding as well.

The Servant Song
by David Haas and Jeanne Cotter

Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let me be your servant too

We are pilgrims on the journey
We are brothers on the road
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load

I will hold the Christ light for you
In the night time of your fear
I will hold my hand out to you
Speak the peace you long to hear.

I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh, I'll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we've seen this journey through.

When we sing to God in heaven
We shall find such harmony
Born to all we've known together
Of Christ's love and agony

Happy Anniversary Mike and Michaela!

  1. I've never heard this song before Mike, it's quite lovely.
